Watch: What does new federal oversight of MBTA say about Gov. Baker’s stewardship over the T?

The Federal Transit Administration announced this week that it is taking an “increased safety oversight role” over the MBTA after a series of safety incidents. Among them was the death of Robinson Lalin, who was dragged and killed last month after his arm got caught in the door of a Red Line train.

Former Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation Jim Aloisi and Stacy Thompson, the executive director of LivableStreets Alliance, joined Talking Politics host Adam Reilly to talk about what the federal oversight of the MBTA could mean for the agency’s future and what it says about Gov. Charlie Baker’s stewardship of the T up to now.

Plus, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu’s endorsement in the Suffolk County district attorney race created some serious tension this week between interim DA Kevin Hayden and rival City Councilor Ricardo Arroyo. GBH News City Hall Reporter Saraya Wintersmith and State House News Service Reporter Chris Lisinski joined Reilly to talk about the candidates’ clash, North End restaurant owners taking their fight against outdoor dining fees to federal court and the battle over licenses for undocumented immigrants playing out at the State House.
