WESH 2 News was invited to speak to students at this year’s Code Orlando STEM camp.It’s is a four week technology immersion experience in downtown Orlando for youth in grades 7 and 8. The 25 students in the program experienced technology in the community through site visits and lunch and learn speakers.WESH 2’s Weekend Anchor Christina Watkins and Photojournalist Alex Adley spoke Thursday about technology in news. The students also demonstrated roles where they pretended to cover breaking news. From aerospace technology, to the rail system, to environmental engineering the youth explored various aspects of technology. Additionally, the youth in the program developed their own technology projects during the camp. These projects are inclusive of coding, AR/VR, and animation skills.The program is intended to inspire youth to consider STEM and STEAM future career possibilities. The activities provide a broader vision of possibilities for the students.The camp is supported in part by the Gordon Family Giving Foundation and the University of Central Florida College of Community Innovation and Education.
